III Latin-American Conference on Bioimpedance

(3a Conferencia Latinoamericana en Bioimpedancia)

Chair: Prof. Carlos-Augusto Gonzalez-Correa,
University of Caldas,UC, Manizales-Colombia.

Co-chair: Prof. David-Alejandro Miranda-Mercado,
Industrial University of Santander, UIS, Bucaramanga-Colombia.

The Latin-American Conference on Bioimpedance (CLABIO) was created to promote that research groups on Electrical Bioimpedance (EBI) from Latin America and the Caribbean share experiences among them and with other groups of the world, by presenting their scientific works and potential innovations in this research area at a triennial scientific get together. As the International Conference on Electrical Bio-Impedance and Electrical Impedance Tomography (ICEBI & EIT) is also held every three years, CLABIO was meant to take place in the midterm between two consecutive ICEBI & EITs and, to some extent, can be considered as a preparation for the former.

The First Conference (Brazil, CLABIO-2012) took place in Joinville (Brazil) in November the 6th-9th 2012 and was supported by: State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC), International Society of Electrical Bioimpedance (ISEBI), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Institute of Physics (IOP), Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Level Education (CAPES), Santa Catarina State Foundation for Research Support (FAPESC) and Technological Institute of Joinville (FITEJ). Prof. Pedro Bertemes-Filho was the chair of the conference, where more than 100 original full papers from over 7 countries of the World were submitted. The articles were peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Physics: Conference Series (

The second conference (CLABIO-2015) took place in Montevideo (Uruguay) from September 30th to October 2nd 2015, and was supported by: Universidad de la República, Facultad de Ingeniería, IFMBE (International Federation on Medical and Biological Engineering), the IEEE Uruguayan Chapter, CORAL, SABI and a number of Regional and National Scientific Societies. Furthermore, the ISEBI (International Society of Electrical Bioimpedance) also supported the Conference.

Professor Franco Simini was the chair of the conference, and it is important to mention that the organizers were professors, technicians and students from both the Uruguayan University of the Republic (Universidad de la República) and the State University of Santa Catarina (Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina, UDESC), who were responsible for the full organization of the event. The articles were peer-reviewed and published in a book by Springer
